How to Improve Visibility in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode
What Google officially recommends for earning visibility in AI search, plus a practical measurement plan.
By Auztec Innovations
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode have changed how people explore complex questions. Instead of making one short query and opening a list of blue links, a searcher may ask a detailed question, refine it and follow one of several cited sources.
This does not make SEO obsolete. It makes technical eligibility, original evidence and clear information architecture more important.
Start with what Google actually says
Google's official guidance on AI features and your website is refreshingly direct: there is no special AI schema or secret file required. To appear as a supporting link, a page must be indexed, eligible to show a snippet and compliant with normal Search requirements.
Google's new guide to optimising for generative AI features also says that core SEO remains relevant because AI features use the same search index and quality systems.
That means the durable work is still:
- allow crawling;
- make important pages easy to find through internal links;
- publish useful text that answers a real need;
- support it with appropriate media;
- keep structured data consistent with visible content; and
- provide a fast, usable page experience.
AI search expands the query, so cover the decision
Google describes a "query fan-out" process in which AI features may run related searches across subtopics. A shallow page targeting one exact phrase can miss the wider decision.
Suppose a buyer asks, "What CRM should a 20-person service company use?" A useful page may need to explain:
- implementation versus software cost;
- data migration;
- integrations;
- permissions;
- automation;
- adoption; and
- when custom software is justified.
Do not pad an article to mention every related word. Build a complete answer around the questions a serious buyer asks before acting.
Publish evidence competitors cannot copy

Generic definitions are easy to summarise and easy to replace. Strong pages contribute something specific:
- a first-hand implementation lesson;
- a comparison framework;
- screenshots or demonstrations;
- measured performance;
- a clear process;
- a case study; or
- an honest boundary explaining when the service is not appropriate.
Our project pages, including Vision Touch Ltd, give search engines and buyers concrete evidence of the work behind our SEO & Google Marketing guidance.
Original evidence also makes a page more useful to a person arriving from an AI-generated answer. Visibility is not the goal if the landing page cannot earn trust.
Make entities and relationships explicit
Search systems must understand who produced the content, what the organisation does and how the article relates to services, people and projects.
Use:
- a consistent organisation name and contact details;
- clear author or publisher attribution;
- descriptive page titles and headings;
- Organization, Article, Service and Breadcrumb structured data where appropriate;
- internal links with meaningful anchor text; and
- an About page that establishes experience and scope.
Structured data should describe the visible page, not make claims the visitor cannot verify.
Ensure the useful answer is present in HTML
Important content should not exist only in a video, image or interaction that search systems cannot reliably interpret. Provide captions, transcripts, labels and descriptive text.
Our Premium Websites & Web Applications work treats crawlability and accessibility as part of the same engineering discipline: the meaning of a page should survive when visual decoration and client-side behaviour are removed.
Strengthen internal discovery
An isolated article has weaker context and may be crawled less often. Link new posts from a blog hub, connect them to relevant services and link between genuinely related articles.
A useful cluster for AI customer support might include:
- a decision guide;
- a voice AI article;
- a chatbot architecture article;
- an implementation project; and
- the AI automation service page.
This helps both visitors and search systems follow the subject from education to evaluation.
Measure AI visibility and business outcomes
Google announced dedicated generative AI performance reporting in Search Console in June 2026, initially rolling it out to a subset of sites. Where available, use it to monitor impressions in AI features.
Do not stop at visibility. Track:
- qualified organic enquiries;
- visits to service and case-study pages;
- assisted conversions;
- branded-search growth;
- engagement with decision-stage content; and
- which articles begin a successful customer journey.
AI-search traffic may arrive through longer, more specific questions. A lower volume of better-qualified visits can be more valuable than a high-volume definition page.
What not to do
Avoid:
- mass-producing near-identical articles;
- inventing first-hand experience;
- adding unsupported statistics;
- hiding important content behind scripts;
- creating special "AI crawler" files and expecting rankings; or
- marking up claims that are not visible on the page.
Google's guidance on generative AI content focuses on accuracy, quality, relevance and value rather than the tool used to create a draft.
A practical 60-day plan
First, confirm indexation, canonical URLs, sitemaps, mobile performance and structured data. Next, identify five commercial questions your customers ask before buying. Improve or create one definitive page for each, adding original examples and internal links. Finally, measure the path from search landing page to service view and enquiry.
